Free Will and Determinism

Free will is a myth, and the sooner we accept that, the more just our society will be.
– Robert Sapolsky (A professor at Stanford University)

My comment: Sapolksy does the same thing that Sam Harris does: Makes a good case for determinism, and then shoots it down with a sentence like the above, which makes it clear he either: A) Doesn’t believe what he’s selling, or B) can’t avoid falling under the illusion of having free will any more than can the rest of us.

If free will is a myth, it’s pointless to argue that people should accept that fact. They either will or they won’t. It’s not their choice. Sapolsky presumably has no free choice in advocating such acceptance, nor will his listeners have a free choice acting or not acting on his advice.

Certainly bright students must have called him on this more than once?
